Pendeen Lighthouse
Position 50° 9'.85 N 05° 40'.20 W
OK the position just makes us sound nautical but if you do visit Pendeen, which for nearly 100 years has been guiding passing vessels and warning of the dangerous waters around Pendeen watch you can't help but get in the seafaring spirit. It's a morning or afternoon out involving just one bus ride.
From here you can see the inhospitable shore continue for a further eight miles or so to the western entrance of St Ives Bay, the principal feature here being the Gurnards Head, on which many ships have come to grief.
